I got a big-time reminder today about how much energy can do.

A man walked into the studio in the last part of the day.  I could see by the way he was walking that he was in a good deal of pain.  We talked for a moment, and he told me that his back was hurting, and he wanted Reiki for it.

This threw me back or a second as I expected that massage would help him the most.  People with back pain usually have some muscles pulled or strained.  I tend to want to go at it with a physical approach, thus massage.  Even though I do a lot of energy work, I don't always think along those lines when the problem is very obviously physically.

Well, this gentleman wanted energy, not massage.  As he explained, he takes aikido from a teacher in the area.  This teacher also happens to be a Reiki practitioner.  One night during class, someone had hurt themselves, and he used a moment of Reiki to get rid of their pain.  This made my client want energy work instead of physical massage.

So, I took him into the treatment room, and did about 50 minutes of Reiki.  He pulled a lot of energy, especially in his back.  During the session we talked about energy and aikido and lots of things.  The further the session went, the better my client felt.  When I was done with the Reiki, I took a couple minutes and did the Lomi Lomi back compressions to stretch his muscles.  When he got up, he was feeling really great.  His pain was gone, and he was able to walk again.

Amazing huh?  Ok, so I've just had this huge kick in the backside to remind me of the things I should already know, things that I teach.  The first thing is that energy (although it seems isn't) is a physical mode of healing.  Reiki can take away pain, help with emotional issues, combat disease, generally make someone feel better no matter what their problem is.  I should have been reminded of this from my sessions with John at the assisted living community.  But even I tend to forget how wonderful and magical it can be.

We all need a good swift kick in the backside now and then.  This one was mine… for today.  I wonder what tomorrow's reminder will be about.
