Well, it finally happened. I got new carpeting in the shop.

Since I have been open, I have hated the horribly dirty and worn carpet that has been in the studio. According to my landlord, it has been there since the place was put up over 20 years ago. There were many worn spots from office chairs, and it was just horrible. Not having the type of money needed to re-carpet, I have been putting down area throw rugs since I moved in. The new room had carpet so worn, there were round patches from office chairs rolling over it for many, many years.

Well, today that all changed, and like everything else, it was not an easy feat. The carpet company had told me that it would take about eight hours to do the installation. I was obviously concerned when the installers didn’t show up until two hours late. (They had been told that it would take two to three hours tops to do the job by the sales person.)

I had been told that I would be responsible for moving all the small stuff off of tables and that the carpet people would move all of the heavy stuff. I bought several large bins and packed the treatment room into them. I figured that we would pack up one room, move it into another, and then move it back. We’d then repeat the process for as many rooms as there were. Well, this isn’t what they had expected. They expected that all of the stuff would be packed and out of the shop (like I had some place to put it). They helped me move everything out onto the sidewalk, even the little stuff. Since I didn’t have enough bins to store everything, much of it just sat out there looking like a yard sale.

The installers had told me that most installers would just have said that the place wasn’t ready and scheduled another day. I replied that if that had been the case, I would have been driving to his shop and demanding my deposit back. I also would have been presenting them with a bill for the five sessions I had to turn down because the packing and unpacking made it not possible to do business. I guess they expected me to rent a truck and put it in the parking lot to load stuff into and then move stuff out of.

When it was all done, it was 7:30 that evening. The carpet looked very nice, not that one could see much of it with everything piled on the floor. But the job took eight hours. Hmm, I’m not surprised at that time.
