February 6, 2005 (Part One)

We had our first hike today up into the red rocks of Sedona. We were dealing with a time schedule, although not a tight one, it did have some pressure on us. We had chosen a hiking trail that was supposed to be about a mile to a mile and a half, but I think we extended that a bit as we went from the beginning of the trail up to Chicken Point.

When we started out there were these two upright red rocks in front of us next to a larger series of rocks. They looked to be quite a bit distant. It was very pleasant day for a hike to as the temperature although not cold was cool, the sun shining the whole time. We kept an eye on the markers as we headed up and down the long the trail seeing all of the very picturesque scenes along the way.

At Chicken Point we could see lots of rock formations and a lot of mountains at great distances. (This is one of the areas that one of the jeep tours takes people to.) When we started out, these two large red rocks were pretty distant and on our left. We got to Chicken Point, we were on the other side of those rocks. The view was magnificent. It was so very nice, and so very quiet. We walked up to the viewing area and took a lot of pictures, then we started to head back. The problem was, was that I couldn't find the head to the trail to come back. There were number of trails there but each one we started down just didn't feel quite right. Finally, we went back to the top of chicken point and retraced our steps, step by step. My sister-in-law finally found the marker of the right trail, the one we had come up.

About a quarter of the way back, I realized that I had been walking along, enjoying the view, yet still letting my stressful energies around me. So, we stopped for a couple minutes while I sat on the ground to let my energies mingle with the energies that were there. I let the stressful out of me, and the nice peaceful energies of Sedona in. After taking a moment to do that, we continued on our way feeling much lighter that I had been a moment before.

When we got back to her car, we had been walking for two hours. The pleasantness, sereneness of the area did what it was supposed to do. It's just wonderful being at Sedona again.
