Class scheduling has become an interesting thing lately.

As I’ve said before, I am now scheduling a Reiki 1 class each month. Some of them get confirmed (students sign up for them) and others get cancelled.

I had gotten a call from someone that had signed up for a Reiki 1 class form another teacher some time ago. The class was cancelled when that teacher took ill, and it was never rescheduled. This person found me and was asking about taking classes. Since the scheduled class on July 16th was too close, we set another class date for this coming Saturday (July 23rd). (Keep in mind that I require a deposit seven days in advance to hold a class. I have had a couple times in the past where I have taken the information and no deposit to have no one show up at class time.)

On the 15th, I got a call from someone else that was asking about the class the next day. Well, since I had not received any deposits for that class within the specified time period, I had cancelled it. (I was not about to set up a class based on someone’s word over the phone, especially since this person was calling for another.) I explained that I had another class scheduled the next weekend, and they were both welcome to come to that provided they let me know by Monday if they were coming, and got a deposit to me. She told me she would call back by the end of the day, or end of the weekend without fail. (Apparently, her friend wanted to take the class and was willing to pay for both of them to take it.)

Well, I have heard nothing from them. When I called the lady that I originally scheduled that class date for, she told me she was unable to get the money by then, and that the next month’s already scheduled class might work out better. Last night I changed the class status for the one on the 23rd to ‘cancelled’.

I know I’m having a class when I have a deposit in hand, and not before. I can’t see that changing because people seem to be unpredictable or unreliable. I know it’s a sad thing to say, but it seems to be true. But then again, I have learned to cope with it somewhat. By having the drop date a week out, that gives me time to deal with the changes. It is much better than the night before.
