For the last month, I have been doing outcalls to an assisted living center to do Reiki on John. I didn’t get to see him this week as things have changed.
I have been working through John’s daughter who lives in Washington, DC. But it is her brother who lives down here that controls the purse strings. The daughter was sharing the cost of John’s Reiki with her mother. The brother told her that their mother can’t afford this. The daughter can’t afford to pay the cost herself, and insurance does not cover what I do, so my services are no longer required.
Now, this may sound like I am bitter about losing a ‘regular client’, but this is the farthest from the truth. I am upset, but not over losing a ‘paycheck’. I am upset over politics and eastern versus western views.
As it turns out, the brother is the head of one of the hospitals here, which explains his anti-eastern views. In seeing John, I noticed that he seemed better, and was more alert than when I first saw him. I also felt that he hit a plateau. After the first time, he got a lot better quickly, but reached a point where he leveled off. He was feeding himself, and trying to get out of bed as he felt he was stronger than he truly was. The cancer in his leg was staying where it was, and seemed to be no problem at all. Well, his daughter was down to visit this weekend, and what she found surprised me.
I did not get to talk to her until today due to scheduling problems, and her not knowing I did not go out of town. Unfortunately, today, she was home. When she had seen John, she was shocked at how bad he was doing.
What she told me was that he was not feeding himself, and the nursing staff was having to feed him. This is how he was when I first saw him. But after his first Reiki treatment, he started feeding himself again. He started to do a lot of things that he is no longer doing. She also said that his leg was really swollen from the cancer. This was not the case when I last saw him a week ago.
Wow.
Could the Reiki have made that much difference? Could it alone have been sustaining him at a higher level than he can without it? Could it have been holding his cancer at bay? We will probably never know the answers to these questions. I do, however, have my suspicions.
Now with the brother not believing in eastern modalities, he is keeping John from getting the healing that seems to be keeping him at a high level, and keeping his cancer at bay. The other joke to all this is that the daughter talked to John’s doctor. Keep in mind that this doctor thought that it was a great idea to bring a Reiki practitioner in to work on John, and was thrilled that there was someone willing to come out.
This doctor told John’s daughter that since John had been falling asleep while receiving Reiki, the Reiki must not be having any effect. Excuse me!! I have had many people fall asleep while receiving Reiki. Receiving Reiki is so relaxing that it is very easy to fall asleep. This doesn’t mean that the Reiki is not working, or the subject is not accepting it. In fact, the more relaxed they are, the better it goes in. I would have known if the energy were not going into him. It was flowing big time.
What the doctor said tells me one of two things. The first is that she does not really understand Reiki and how it works. The second could be that the doctor is aware of the son’s position and is looking at her statement as a smart political move.
These things are what angers me. Because of politics and an unwillingness to believe or understand, someone is not getting the healing that they need, that they do so much better when they get it.
But then, there is one more position to consider… John’s. The man is 88 years old, and has cancer in his leg. They were talking about treating it with radiation, but they are now thinking that this will just put more strain on him. At this moment, they are looking at his living will and seeing ‘no extraordinary means’. When you consider that John has had a long and good life, maybe even giving him Reiki to prolong it goes against those wishes. Maybe his soul knew this would happen, and saved a lot of the energy for the time it will need it to travel over. Maybe that time is coming soon also. I don’t know.
I can be angry at the closed mindedness and stupidity that keeps someone from getting the treatment they need (and this includes insurance companies and normal medical procedures). But I can’t be angry at the cycle of life, and the need of the soul to do what it has to during each life it in habits. This is why I can walk away and understand.
I have to know that what is happening is what must happen. I also have to know something I learned many years ago, that I can’t interfere with free will, and thou shalt not muck with ‘the plan’.
