I did an interesting massage session today. I had a lady that had had breast cancer, and had a double mastectomy. Since she couldn’t lay on her stomach, I did a regular massage (with oils) in a massage chair.

My client has been unable to lay on her stomach since her initial surgery and subsequent reconstructive surgeries six months ago. She had been seeing another therapist who worked on her in a chair, but that therapist is no longer around.

Her main concern today was getting her back worked as she was in considerable pain from lifting more than she should have. As expected, draping was interesting, but between the two of us, we managed to do an adequate job.

I did a lot of pressing and long strokes as well as some Lomi Lomi moves. The muscles got stretched and she felt much better. But it was an interesting challenge. The key focus was the back and arms and low back. Next time, I expect it will be less of a specific area massage and more of a general one. It was interesting coming up with the moves and the positions I had to do them from.

Hmmm, maybe I’m developing a new style.
