I had a man come in today while I was talking to a student from one of the local colleges. He wanted massage.

I have gotten visits from four students (so far) who are taking Alternative Modalities classes at UNF (University of North Florida). They were sent to various locations to ask questions about alternative methods of care. As it turns out, since I was nice to the students that came by last fall, I was on the ‘official’ list of places they could visit.

At any rate, when I was talking to this student, a man walked in and said that he wanted to be a walk-in client for massage. I told him that it was $60 for an hour, and he replied ‘half hour’. Now, normally, I don’t do half hour massages unless I am just working on one thing (like the back). I asked if he had a specific problem that he wanted worked out, and he told me that his back was giving him problems. So I confirmed that we were simply talking about a 30 minute back massage.

I went and gave him the forms to fill out and told him that I would be with him in a minute. I took the (female) student into the office with me where she went to the web and called up the list of businesses that the teacher had made up. While we were there, I heard the door open, and a car start up. I looked at the student and asked “Did he just leave?” “I think so.”, was her reply.

Wow. I can’t believe that he left because I wasn’t paying attention to him. I think it just took that long to figure out that the student with me was not the therapist. Yes, rudeness strikes again.
