I was working on my client yesterday when she told me something.  She told me “You’re a very gifted healer.”  This got me to thinking of something a friend and I had been talking about the other day… what is the difference between a massage therapist and a healer?

There are a lot of massage therapists.  In fact there are a lot of people in many healing professions.  But what makes them be a healer?  Doing energy work does not make someone a healer, it simply gives them more tools with which to work.  A massage therapist may do good healing work, but where do they cross that line between simply being a massage therapist to being a healer.  The same is true for doctors, nurses, chiropractors, and any other ‘healing’ arts professionals.

We decided that just doing good healing work does not make one a healer.  Even caring about the work one does still falls short of that term, healer.  So what is it?

I think we broke it down to the fact that someone cares, and truly loves what they do.  I love helping people.  I love making them feel better no matter what means I use to get them to that point.  This is the mark of a healer.

There are way too many people in the healing arts that are not healers, even though we think they are.  And the interesting thing is that one does not have to be in the healing arts to be a healer.  One can do energy work, and help people yet not be a medical professional at all.

So I guess that is the bottom line.  A true healer is someone that helps people, cares about doing so, and truly loves what they do.  Sounds good, don’t you think?
