Marilyn, my mediumship teacher was in today.  Since I can’t make the monthly classes because I am teaching in the evenings, she is willing to give me personal training in exchange for Reiki sessions.

Today was a unique experience.  The first thing we did was to walk across to the park next door.  There, she had me close my eyes, and just feel.  She told me I could move around, talk, or do whatever I wanted.

At first, I was just feeling being there.  I could feel the breeze blowing, the grass under my feet, hear the traffic going by on Third Street.  I could feel the warmth of the sun.  As the sun came fully out, I could see the color red on my eyelids.  At one point, I could see a rectangle down in front of me that had things moving in it.  As I moved, the things in the rectangle moved.  It took a moment, but I realized that I could see the grass on the ground in front of me in this rectangle (in a fuzzy sort of way).  I looked around, and the images I was seeing changed.  If I tipped my head up (it was like looking through the reading portion of my glasses), I could see the post on this fence around some electrical device in the park.

If I looked in another direction, I could see the bench that was nearby.  I started to walk toward it, and was almost there when the rectangle faded.  I found the bench, but was off a bit from where I thought it was.  At that point, I just stood there and felt.

Marilyn had decided that I needed to feel more things, so she prodded me, and lead me around the park, getting me to feel trees, and bushes, and whatever else was there.  Eventually, she led me back to the bench, and had me open my eyes.  Then we reversed the process.

I let her walk around to wherever she wanted to go, keeping her out of any danger she might run into, like tree trunks and such.  In a way, it was just like working with someone going through myofascial unwinding.  I was simply there to keep her safe, and help her do what she needed.  She had been through a bit when she asked me to take her someplace safe.  I took her arm, and guided her over to the bench where she opened her eyes.

When we talked of what we had done, she told me that we had acted as a guide for each other, in a sense a spirit guide.  As the person with their eyes closed, we knew that our ‘spirit guide’ was there, and that they would keep us safe, but we could not see or hear them.  She said that the same is true in life.  We have a spirit guide that we can not see or hear, yet they are there, and their job is to keep us safe.  We just have to open up to them and trust them.

One if the things she told me was that she wanted to get out and feel everything she could in the time she had.  But after a while, there was too much coming at her at once, and she was starting to get frightened.  It was at that point that she asked me to take her someplace safe.  In life, things have been coming at her too quickly.  She has been dealing with breast cancer and the things she has had to go through for that.  Once she got her head around what she had, she simply asked her spirit guide to take her someplace safe.  Because of that, she is finding better ways to deal with the illness, and is getting much better.  So, in this case, what happened in the exercise was a mirror of what has been happening in life.

The same is true for me.  I was completely comfortable standing in one spot feeling what was going on around me.  Marilyn had decided that I needed to experience more things, or I was going to miss out, so she prodded me to move and go to places to have experiences.  This analogy also mirrors what has been going on in life.  I’ve grown comfortable.  I’m just fine where I am doing what I’m doing.  I need prodding to get out of my comfort zone and experience other things.  Some of this is happening with teaching at night.  But more needs to happen and probably will.

All in all, it was a very enlightening exercise.
