We found out today that we are not getting the dog.
After being jerked around for two weeks, we have an end. When I last talked to the dog’s owners, they had been asking me to make them an offer which I had done. Finally when pushed, They named a priceā¦ $400. Now, that is a ridiculous price for a mutt (not purebread). They were playing on our emotions and they were trying to get as much money as possible.
We started asking questions about when the dog had last had his shots. In truth, in Florida, one can not legally sell a dog without a health certificate. But I felt that if we pushed that, the price would go higher or they would simply back off. We wanted the dog to have a good life.
When they picked him up a month ago, this woman would not even take him, and it was her dog. The dog was not happy to see them and according to the husband, we had spoiled him and he was not the same. Yeah, we gave hum the love and affection that he was starving for.
So after two weeks of chasing back and forth and not getting called back, we did get a hold of the wife and told her that we wanted to buy the dog whether they had papers or not. She gave me to her husband who asked if his wife had decided to let the dog go. Huh? You set a price of $400 on the dog while she was sitting there with you. One makes the assumption that you want to sell him.
Well, they promised to get back to us, and did not. We went down to their house today and talked to the wife. When asked if she wanted to sell the dog, she simply told us that her husband was not home. This evening, we got a call from the woman’s daughter to tell us that they were not selling the dog. Obviously this woman did not have the guts to call herself as we probably would have told her off.
The problem is that I know they don’t care about the dog. I wouldn’t be surprised if he was out in a cage in the garage as there was no barking when we knocked on their door. I get the feeling that the dog is like a piece of jewelry that she wears once in a while. I think they are thinking of breeding him. Dunno.
This just sucks because the dog suffers. And there is nothing we can do about it. So after three weeks, we at least have closure. But we do miss him as does our dogs.
