Well, my problems finally got worked on today. This was something that was way overdue.

Since the weather turned cold in mid-January, I have been having back problems. Initially it was not affecting the sciatic nerve (which comes out of the spine and runs down the legs to the feet), but lately has been. This along with the cough I had at the time was causing a great deal of pain. It was to the point that when I started coughing, I had to bend over to relieve the pull on the sciatic nerve. (My doctor just tells me I weigh too much.)

Yesterday, I could barely walk. The pain went from my low back and wrapped around my thighs. I could barely move my legs. I also had a burning sensation in my mid low back. (Yea, we get hurt too.)

Most of the people I trade with have either been busy, or no longer practice, so getting work ha be impossible. I finally got to see oe of the therapists down the street today. He has been doing massage work for 30 years and has helped teach with Paul St. Johns (the St. Johns Method), John Barnes (MFR), and Tom Cochran (Temple Lomi). He charges $110 per session, but his sessions are 90 minutes. I was willing to pay, but he offered to do it in trade (I have worked on him before).

After an acupuncture session by someone I also trade with, I got a good MFR workout. He reset my legs, adjusted my pelvis and stretched my psoas muscle (this wraps around the spine and usually is gotten to by going around the stomach from the front). Not only did I receive work, I learned a lot of things too.

Afterwards, I could walk. I was still bothered a bit, but I could get around. I could work. We scheduled another session for next week.

Need to keep well, otherwise I can’t help others. But like most therapists, I wait until things get bad before seeking help. Duh!
