Measuring Energy
by Brian Dean

We talk about Reiki, Therapeutic Touch, and many other healing modalities. One thing that they all have in common is that modern day science (modern medicine) doesn’t believe in them. And that mostly stems from the inability to measure them.

Doctors look at the energy medicines as bunk. It can’t be measured, so it can’t exist. Scientists feel the same way when they talk about psychic phenomena.

I was watching a TV show called ‘Numbers’. If you’re not familiar with the premise, it involves two brothers, one an FBI agent, and the other, a mathematical wizard. Through probability theories and lots of statistical analyses, the math wizard helps his brother track down bad guys.

The episode they played had the math wizard going head to head with a psychic, not believing in anything he could do. He kept saying that there is no proof of psychic abilities that can’t be proven as fake by modern science.

Of course, one of the other characters was a believer in the psychic, and they started to argue the point. The math wiz was saying that there is no measurement. The believer made a very astute comment. He asked if the quasars and cosmos were there before we had the telescopes to see them with.

That really was an amazingly valid point. Science complains that we can’t measure the psychic, or energy modalities. Maybe it’s just because we don’t have the tools at present. Did black holes exist before we could see them? Did radiation exist before we had the Geiger counter? Why of course it did.

Just because we don’t have measurement tools does not mean that something doesn’t exist. It just means that we don’t have the proper tools. I guess the issue is that why do people dismiss something because it can’t be proven scientifically? Radiation existed. Look how many people scoffed at that until people who mined uranium started getting sick. Ok, so we had an effect that made us believe in the cause. When I do Reiki, people feel better. We have a cause and effect, yet people still think it’s nonsense.

Maybe we should be looking at the results, and then see what made the results. Then maybe we could believe that there is something to this energy stuff. Then eventually, someone will come up with the tools.
