Captain In The Morning

Some time after hearing the original song, we were talking about how the captain of a starship makes his own rules, has his way.  That thought produced this idea.  Think about a captain that has a love interest (naw), and how things go from there.  The funny thing is that I started down one track which was a little risqué.  I decided that I didn't want to go that way, and changed the angle of the song.  When I read the original verse to Shirley, and then told her that I had scrapped it, she told me to include it.  So the original verse became the last verse of the song.

Captain In The Morning

By Brian Dean

There'll be no crew to see our love,

as long as we can be discreet,

there's no need to hide your face,

as long as you think on your feet,

only one thing you need to know,

something to do after you go.

(chorus) Just call me captain in the morning, captain

salute me just before you leave me, ensign

Just call me captain in the morning, captain

then turn and walk away, from me

Maybe the corridor is dim,

no one will notice where or how

now if the crew thinks that we've sinned

well, I'm the captain anyhow

and if we're victims of the Kling,

you won't tell them a single thing.

Just call me captain in the morning, captain

salute me just before you leave me, ensign

Just call me captain in the morning, captain

then turn and sneak away, from me

There'll be no ties to bind your hands,

not if my orders you'll obey,

there's no need to pretend love,

it's rank you wanted anyway

no need to worry if you scream

my cabin's padded, every seam.

Just call me captain in the morning, captain

salute me just before you leave me, ensign

Just call me captain in the morning, captain

then turn and walk away,

they'll notice if you stay with me

Just call me captain in the morning, captain

salute me just before you leave me, ensign

Just call me captain in the morning, captain

salute me just before you leave me, e-en-sign.
