The Anniversary Three Decade Roundup

A Night Before Christmas
30 Years in the Making

(Colloquial Rhyme meets Bob Seger meets Clement Clarke Moore)

2024

It has now been 30 years since we started writing our holiday poems, and we had to honor what we have done while celebrating the ocassion.

It’s been thirty years since past December,
So far back I can’t remember.
I was humming a tune from 1962,
And suddenly, the pen moved…

T’was the night before Christmas and all through the void.
Not a creature was stirring, not even a droid.
This is how it began that long December past,
Who in their right minds would have thought it would last.

From the pen came a story, an amusing rhyme.
To give folks a chuckle in a most festive time.
These were a gift in the holiday spirit
To create a chuckle that folks would inherit.

We created a story, a bold seasonal tale,
And each year we worked to not make it stale.
We told of characters so brave and so bold,
And then kept them vibrant, so they wouldn’t grow old.

Each year we struggled to come up with a theme,
Like trying to remember last night’s vivid dream.
An idea would spark, and suddenly take flight
Which kept me up writing all through the night.

A story would come out and then set to paper,
Taking off on another exciting new caper.
Edited, finalized, then printed so many,
Belief that it could be done, we didn’t have any.

But printed they were, and mailed in the post,
To the north and the south, the east and west coast.
Travel they did across all the lands,
Our beloved stories ended up in folks’ hands.

Our journey has been long, and tangled webs we did weave,
And every year when all was done, a big sigh did we heave.
The ideas that kept coming, and the characters we involved,
Just kept hitting at us until a plot point was resolved.

Science fiction was our go to, it was always our fave.
So we talked of these characters and gave them a wave.
A story of Luke Skywalker could always be spurred.
But “Danger, Danger Will Robinson” was the next thing we heard.

We told a story of Dracula, that nasty old dude,
But Santa left him gifts, he didn’t want to be rude.
And Doctor Who came in with a travel through time,
Tho working with Daleks was a difficult rhyme.

Every now and then, the universe would change,
And a range of topics could we then arrange.
There were strange holidays, and the millennium scare.
And Santa delivering from the internet, not your usual fare.

There were cute tales from unique points of view,
Seen from the dogs or the mouse, their thoughts, who knew?
And aliens of course, can’t have stories without them,
Whether beamed up or beamed down, each one was a gem.

Stories full of clichés, or Santa going high tech,
We gave each a shot, and figured, what the heck.
There was a tale with heroes, villains, and damsels in distress
Then we went back to Star Wars, yes, we had to regress.

It’s been lots of fun, even though it did cause some stress.
I heard the computer,” How about a nice game of chess?”
But ideas they did come, and stories, they did flow,
Even though we had no inkling of the direction they’d go.

Each had a beginning, a middle, and an end.
Yet they each touched our hearts just like a good friend.
And now it has come, and it’s thirty years past.
In our wildest thoughts we never thought it would last.

Over the decades, 45 stories have been told,
Each crafted with love into the traditional mold.
They were cuddled and nurtured, and fitted into form.
Crafting a tale that was outside the norm.

More stories will come, if the spirit is willing.
There might be some laughs, or some might be chilling.
With a product of imagination added to intuition,
Anything can be created and brought to fruition.

As to future writings, we’ll take measures not by half,
And create something new to give you a laugh.
What characters will come, what topics will we choose,
As of right now that is unknown, but rest assured, something will ooze.

So here’s to a holiday so full of good cheer,
Filled with love, peace, and joy, and nothing to fear.
So as I sit here creating, yes I continue to write,
Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night.
