Star Wars (Again)

Yet Another Star Wars Christmas Story

2015

FInally, with another Star Wars movie being released, we just could not leave it alone.

T’was the night before Christmas, and all through the void,
Not a creature was stirring, not even a droid.
But that was old hat, from a long time ago…
When only three episodes contained the whole show.

Now what to my wondering eyes did appear,
A new Star Wars movie ‘fore the end of the year.
Instead of counting down Christmas, or the final frontier,
We were counting the time ‘til the movie premiere.

We’d made our list and checked it twice,
Tried to make sure we had every device.
We took the tent and much camping gear,
And enough supplies to last a light year.

A spot in the ticket line is where we did camp,
Underneath that big, tall street lamp.
We’d be first in line to buy our tickets,
While listening to the night time songs of crickets.

We brought munchies and beer and assorted things,
And in our tents lived the life of kings.
We had the force with special Jedi beads,
And empty containers for some other needs.

At the head of the line to see the first show,
We could purchase our tickets, with lightsabers in tow.
We’d buy popcorn and soda and other good treats,
Then in the tenth row, would claim the best seats.

We were right there, from the opening moment,
To take it all in, yes every component.
Every action, every scene of the film would surround,
And we’d hear it all in Skywalker Sound.

After three long days, it was finally here,
The moment we waited for, so many years.
We packed up the tents, and stowed all our gear,
And rolled it all up in a neat little sphere.

Finally it was time for the theater to open,
Yes, the force was with us, that is our slogan.
On Vader and Droids, and Leia and Luke,
That we left out Jar-Jar was not such a fluke.

From the edge of the parking lot to the front of the line,
We all shouted out, “It’s now movie time!”
The lights in the box office were on, we could tell.
The cheers all went up, the crowd started to yell.

But as the theater did open, we saw such a thing,
Hanging in the window, by a small piece of string.
In letters written quite plainly, yet they seemed to shout,
The words printed there, simply, said “SOLD OUT”.

Written beneath that like it was written in Greek,
Came more words of horror, “For The Next 3 Weeks”.
How could this be, we’d been waiting for days,
It all sort of happened in some kind of haze.

We’d planned everything minutely, to the last detail,
What could have gone wrong for our plan to fail?
We had it all down, the plan was the key,
We found the manager, asked, “How could this be?”

He said, “Times have changed since the first films came out.
If you wanted to buy tickets, you had only one route.
Now there are better methods that are easy and fine.
Just like these people, you should have bought them online.”

We were shocked and amazed, but mostly aghast.
We felt like we’d been hit with hot laser blasts.
How could this happen, this could not be the end.
Who could have thought of this story and penned?

Seeing our distress the manager gave us a wink.
It really surprised us, we could hardly blink.
“If you’ll wait just a moment, some seats might appear.
There are usually some empties, over there, over here.”

He took us on up, and tickets we did buy.
He was no Darth Vader, he was a really nice guy.
We got us some snacks and headed off to find seats,
The Dark Side had suffered yet another defeat.

A note to the wise when you are doing your planning,
Consider every possibility so you’re not left outside standing.
And as we settle in for some holiday lightsaber fun,
We wish that the force will be with us, every one.
