Star Wars: The Final Episode

A Christmas Story

From a long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away

2005

This year saw the release of Episode 3, the final Star Wars movie that George Lucas will produce.  I hope there are others at some time, continuing after episode 6, like he initially promised.  So, I figured it was time for one final Star Wars poem.

T’was the night before Christmas, and through our asteroid,
Not a creature was stirring, not even a droid.
The stockings were hung by the exhaust vent with care
In hopes that the Force would bring good things there.

The children were asleep, nestled in their beds
While visions of starfighters danced through their heads.
And Momma in her nightgown, and I in my robe,
Had just settled down for a good winter’s doze.

When outside the enclosure there arouse such a clatter,
I thought “It’s just the wind, and really doesn’t matter.”
But when the noise came again, it caused me to fear.
What dastardly things could be happening here?

I got out of bed and tripped on the dog.
She had been sleeping, silent as a log.
The sound outside had hit quite a fury.
I needed to see what it was in a hurry.

I got to the window, my breath I then caught,
I felt I was ready, or so I had thought.
In front of the enclosure was a man and a sleigh.
I blinked my eyes twice but, they didn’t go away.

The sleigh was attached to a group of some beast.
Reindeer or Stormdeer, seven or eight at least.
With a little old driver, so dark, yet so quick,
I started to wonder if it might be Darth Nick.

He let out a breath that could be heard far away.
The deer all took flight, pulling the sleigh.
Then from the roof, there came this loud thump,
And I wondered about things in the night that go bump.

I was gripped with a fear that I couldn’t hide.
Then I heard Yoda’s voice, “That leads to the Dark Side.”
I wanted to get help to come save the day,
But the nearest outpost was two days away.

The evil had come this far through the galaxy,
And people let it happen, they had such apathy.
I knew how it all ends, what was the fix.
After all, I’d already seen Episode Six.

The air it did shimmer, the place it did shake.
Then suddenly Darth Nick, appeared in its wake.
He looked right at me and I froze where I stood.
He reached up to his coat and threw off his hood.

His face was quite kindly.  His eyes how they glowed.
They shone like a lightsaber in operational mode.
He smiled at me gently and picked up his pack,
A wink of one eye told me he’s back.

His outfit, so dark, I thought, a force for evil,
But he must have just been through some type of upheaval.
I asked about it all, why he was dressed in this way,
He said “Sith happens.  What more can I say?”

He looked me over quickly, once, then twice.
As if trying to determine if I’d been naughty or nice.
He turned his back and went to his work,
And put out the packages, each with a quick jerk.

I had thought him all evil, but there was good inside.
It was something so strong that he couldn’t hide.
When his work was done, he ate all the cookies,
Even the little ones shaped just like wookies.

He pulled out his lightsaber and gave me a wink,
I wasn’t sure what next I should think.
Then holding his lightsaber close to his nose,
Up the disposal chute he rose.

And then it was gone, this weight on the roof,
Especially the clomping of each heavy hoof.
I heard him call to his team, and they did heed,
“Merry Christmas to all, and now, Light Speed!”

May the Force be with us, every one!

Ho! Ho! Ho!
