Doctor?

The video is below the pictures.

Costume recreations from the British TV series about a meddling Time Lord with a good heart (er, actually two of them).

The Colin Baker version of the Doctor combined many types of material just in making the “coat of many colors”.  The pants were made from mattress ticking that was dyed yellow (just as was done for the original costume).  And please don’t step on those shoes, they are blue suede (not that they started out blue).

The Tom Baker Doctor was a creation of shirt, pants, vest, coat, boots, and a very long scarf (about 20 feet).  The boots were initially off the rack, but vinyl was added to to make the roll over cuff at the top.  The scarf was knitted stitch by stitch (on a knitting machine, which although decreased the time involved, it was still a lot of work).  In these photos, the scarf is still unfinished.  It is complete in the last photo.

This is the group that took part in the costume presentation “Queen Sh Tur Nan 2 in Doctorland”.  This involved our announcer having the queen come out, who then fell down and hurt herself, needing a doctor.  She got a doctor.  She got two versions of the doctor whom we have labeled “The Fabulous Baker Whos” (Colin Baker and Tom Baker) and a gentleman in starfleet dress who we referred to as “The Real McCoy”.

Presentation Video

When most people spend time making costumes, they show them to death. We showed the Queen costume in a previous convention. We decided to show this costume a second time (something we hardly ever did). We got the expected, “Yes, it’s nice, but we’ve seen it before” from the audience. That’s when we threw them the curve.
